Recently, my family and I went to Kalgoorlie to see some family we seldom get to, having never been in Kal. Seeing my grandparents and aunts and uncles walking around and working their land and stations was such an interesting experience. At times it felt as if they were part of the land, and it was just as much a part of them, if not more. On the first day, we went bush and had a lunch cooked over a fire outside of town. The took us to all the sites, from Two-Up (a betting game illegal just about everwhere but Kal), to murder sites from the gold rush. My uncles led this tour, encyclopaedias of everything kal and farming. After a visit to a dam, one of my uncles was walking ahead when I realised just how much he suited the environment, and how much it suited him, so I captured the moment.
